Work at the Department

The outpatient unit for polyclinic diagnostics, examination and treatment of hypertension and comorbidities started operating in 2012. The outpatient unit is an integral part of the Clinic for Cardiology ICVD Dedinje. The outpatient unit pays special attention to a personalized and multidisciplinary approach in the early hypertension detection, timely and accurate diagnostics, as well as treating patients suffering from high blood pressure and complications thereof. The outpatient unit implements a special program of educating the population through the work of the Counseling Center for patients with high blood pressure. It is equipped with the state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment for determining the existence of hypertension and complications thereof, as well as monitoring the effects of non- pharmacological and pharmacological treatment. The Hypertension Outpatient Unit has many years of professional and scientific cooperation with the International Society for Vascular Health. Medical doctors perform their work on the premises of the hypertension outpatient unit.

List of procedures

Targeted and detailed internal medicine-cardiac examination of patients suffering from hypertension with ECG imaging analysis and ultrasound examination of the heart.
Calculation of cardiovascular risk in hypertensive patients.
Outpatient blood pressure monitoring (OBPM) using a 24-hour blood pressure monitor and analysis of results correlated with clinical examination.
24-hour ECG recording (Holter ECG monitoring) in patients with symptoms of cardiac arrhythmia, dizziness or loss of consciousness.
Early screening of atherosclerotic disease and detailed analysis of risk factors in hypertensive patients and other patients with increased cardiovascular risk (diabetics, etc.) through: Doppler imaging test of the neck (determining IMT), Doppler imaging test of renal blood vessels, determining and analysis of atherosclerosis biomarkers (CRP, homocysteine, uric acid, etc.), MSCT of blood vessels, etc.
Additional diagnostics of heart and blood vessel function using state-of-the-art diagnostic devices (Somnotouch, Sphygmocor, etc.)
Consultations within the counseling center for hypertension and cardiovascular diseases with special emphasis on diet and other aspects of non-pharmacological therapy for hypertension (smoking, physical activity, etc.).
Diagnostics and treatment of malignant and resistant hypertension in patients hospitalized at ICVD Dedinje for the purpose of determining the exact diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases.
Program for diagnostics, treatment and monitoring resistant hypertension with special reference to the program of invasive hypertension treatment – Renal denervation.

Follow-up examinations: Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 04.00 p.m. – 05.20 p.m.; Follow-up examinations: Thursday and Friday: 11.00 a.m. – 12.20 p.m.

Required documentation:

A referral letter by an internal medicine specialist is required for an examination in the Outpatient Unit. Appointments are scheduled electronically through the IHIS System or through high-priority referral letters for hypertension with complications. Follow-up examinations are scheduled within the period of 30 days to 90 days.
